Every now and then something occurs in the news that just demands a comment. Over the last few weeks the ugly underbelly of America’s culture of death has been exposed, with the trial of Kermit Gosnell.
Gosnell is an abortionist who basically ran a late term abortion mill. Some of the unfortunate premature children he was in the process of killing in utero, ended up being born alive and were then killed after birth in disgusting and repulsive ways, that resemble how one would pith a frog. In the process he killed at least one young woman in an attempt to abort her pregnancy as well. All in all he ran a house of horrors that is difficult to imagine. For the very strong of stomach the grand jury report that led to his indictment, and ultimately conviction on murder charges for 3 of the children he killed post delivery and involuntary manslaughter of the young woman he accidentally killed while aborting her unborn child can be read here .
Although the story was initially ignored, the mainstream news media were ultimately shamed into coverage by opinion pieces written by individuals like political columnist and Fox news contributor Kirstin Powers (herself a liberal but one with enough integrity and sympathy for pro-life arguments to recognize Gosnell’s activities were barbaric.) That Gosnell was not an isolated case was confirmed by others, and that the attitude of Gosnell was widespread in the abortion industry was demonstrated by the terrific investigative reporting of Lila Rose’s group over at Live Action. By the way I suggest a visit to Live Action, they are gutsy and indispensible. They can be checked out at this link .
In any case the putrid rancid odor given off by such vile practices has lead to legislative actions to attempt to limit late term abortions, most recently in Texas.
Obviously we at Catholic X-ray would regard all abortions as did Blessed John Paul II, they are a particularly vile kind of murder in which the victim is especially innocent. We also think any attempt to protect any unborn children is to be cheered. So God bless Texas governor Rick Perry and the Republican legislature down there for trying to at least limit some of the carnage.
This attempt to place even very modest limits on the abortion license is meeting fierce resistance from abortion ideologues who cannot tolerate not being able to abort any unborn child at any stage of pregnancy for any reason. (And they call us extreme!)
Just what the ideology of these folks is was uniquely demonstrated by the video that can be viewed here , as the pro-infanticide crowd yells “Hail Satan” in response to pro-life folks singing amazing grace. I am not sure if this was supposed to shock us. It does not shock me, as I had no doubt whose side these guys were on anyway. If there is still any doubt over the fact that these pro-abortion folks have gone mad, well check this out. One of these pro-abortion protestors had a little girl holding up a sign that said “If I wanted the government in my womb I would F*** a Senator. “. One wonders if the idiot grown up involved went into details explaining to this poor little girl what the sign she was holding up meant. One can only hope not. One should also pray for the poor child who has the grave misfortune to have any contact with the misbegotten adults who used a child in such a manner.
I suppose one should pray for the pro-abortion protestors, (Does anyone know the Roman ritual for Exorcism?) Think about this. These folks are chanting “hail Satan”, while having little girls hold up signs that talk about F*** a Senator all in order to defend this . (Warning the link is only for the strong of stomach)
Whenever we in the pro-life movement get a little fatigued and burned out, let’s all recall just who and what we are fighting. When I do this, I find new intensity and resolve. While we are at it let’s pray to the strongest Pro-life champion we have, Our Lady of Guadalupe.
The image of Our Lady, given to St. Juan Diego (whose feast is Dec. 9), shows Mary as pregnant with Jesus. The Aztec Indians, among whom this image circulated, practiced human sacrifice because they believed the gods were against them. This image proclaimed the Gospel that “God is with us” (Emmanuel) and that therefore we can have the hope that gives us the courage to say “Yes” to life, just like Mary did.
Virgin of Guadalupe,
Patroness of unborn children,
we implore your intercession
for every child at risk of abortion.
Help expectant parents to welcome from God
the priceless gift of their child’s life.
Console parents who have lost that gift
and lead them to forgiveness and healing
through the Divine Mercy of your Son.
Teach us to cherish
and to care for family and friends
until God calls them home.
Help us never to see others as burdens.
Guide our public officials
to defend each and every human life
through just laws.
Inspire us all to bring our faith into public life,
to speak for those who have no voice.
We ask this in the name of your Son,
Jesus Christ, who is Love and Mercy itself.
