Merry Christmas from Catholic X-Ray!

Today we at Catholic X-ray would like to wish any visitors to this site a Merry Christmas!

This is not a day to engage in any controversy, but to savor the gifts we have been given and to pass them forward. Our present to the visitors to our space this year is to alert them to the efforts of Operation Plum Pudding, which we hope you will find both interesting and uplifting.

You can check them out here.

The folks at operation Plum pudding are attempting to better document an amazing and inspiring event that took place 99 years ago this Christmas.  In 1914, during WW I, that Christmas a suprising event took place.  Along the Western Front there was an armistice that emerged largely spontaneously begining Christmas eve. British and German soldiers stopped shooting each other; exchanged gifts, sang carols and may have even played a soccer game.  The documentation of the soccer game is not solid, but that of the rest of the truce is confirmed by letters from soldiers and entries from their diaries.  The folks at Operation Plum Pudding at making an effort to better document this remarkable historical episode. Of course it is clear that this episode points to something very unique about Christmas.

The author Protestant author Phillip Yancy has a small and interesting book entitled “Rumors of another World”.   While we would not endorse every idea in the book, it is certainly an interesting read, and basically takes note that sometimes God may make his presence known through soft subtle signs that accumulate together and indicate his presence. You can read a brief interview with Yancy here .  I think this Christmas truce would qualify as one the “rumors” of another world.

The event of the Christmas truce in 1914 has long lived in popular lore and even inspired a novelty Christmas song that those of us of a certain age enjoyed, “Snoopy ’s Christmas” performed by the “Royal Guardsmen” released around 1967, to hear this catchy little song you can listen here .

This Christmas we will include in our prayers that God blesses the visitors to this site, whoever you are, and we ask that your remember us in your prayers,

Once again from we here at Catholic X-ray, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Help us in all times of discouragement or anxiety.HOLY FAMILY OF NAZARETH, make our family one with you. Help us to be instruments of peace. Grant that love, strengthened by grace, may prove mightier than all the weaknesses and trials through which our families sometimes pass. May we always have God at the center of our hearts and homes until we are all one family, happy and at peace in our true home with you. Amen.
